Ryan Family Adoption

16 months ago we began an adventure.

For nearly half a decade we've known that we wanted to someday adopt a little girl, but in December of 2018 we started to take the first steps down that road. We did a lot of research and met with a few agencies here in Colorado Springs only to hit some major blocks: over 6 year waits or being turned away altogether.

As we delved into the possibilities before us, we found our hearts being drawn to the children of China. With nearly 1.4 billion people and over 2 million orphaned children, China has the most robust international adoption program of any country in the world. As luck would have it, the organization which helps to process the most amount of international adoptions out of China happens to be located here in Colorado, merely an hour from our house.

CCAI  is a spectacular organization which we've worked with over the last year.  The founders, Josh and Lily are Chinese nationals, a pastor and lawyer respectively, and CCAI is the most reputable adoption agency within the CCWA (China Center for Welfare and Adoption) globally. What really sealed it for us are their robust programs for adopted children once they come home: classes to connect us and our daughter to her Chinese heritage including language courses https://www.joyouscenter.org/  and special retreats and workshops just for her to meet other adopted children and connect about their experiences https://www.ccaifamily.org/Support-Resource/Adopteen.

The expense may seem overwhelming, but as part of that up front research we discovered that it was actually very comparable to a domestic adoption, and cheaper than international adoptions from many other countries. CCAI is also able to do all translation of documents in house and is very upfront with their fees and we've had no surprises or gotcha fees thrown at us.  As such, we have been able to pay for half of our total adoption costs so far out of our own pocket, but now for the final phase are in need of support.

We have finished our home study and submitted our complete dossier to China. We are waiting for the CCWA to approve us to adopt a child from China and are waiting to be matched with our daughter. In light of everything going on in the world, this could be within a few months or take several years; there are a lot of variables outside normal adoption proceedings that make things slightly unpredictable. As a result, our final wave of fees could come upon us rather quickly in addition to the funds we will need in order to travel to China at the drop of a hat.

We love sharing and talking about our WHY for this adoption and invite you to ask us any and all questions you may have as you consider partnering with us to bring home our daughter and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity.
