Ryan Bird Fundraiser

Donation protected
As you will all be aware by now, Ryan Bird suffered a serious injury during our game against St Albans on Saturday. The club would like to thank Lucy Tebbitt and the staff from both clubs who helped attend to Ryan on the pitch and get him off to hospital safely and securely.

I’m afraid the news on Ryan’s injury isn’t good and is worse than first thought - a ruptured patella tendon that will require a surgery this week. Best estimates at this stage put his recovery time at six months. This is a huge blow for everyone at the club, not least because Birdy had started the season in great form and he will be a huge miss out on the pitch and in the changing room.

Rest assured, the club will be doing all we can to support Ryan in his recovery and fill the void left by him on the pitch. Our immediate priority however is to make sure our player and his young family are looked after.
An unfortunate consequence to this injury is that Ryan is self-employed away from football will not be able to work for two months. In the past when the likes of Adam Foulser and Mark Scott suffered career threatening injuries we have always made a point of organising a fundraiser to help compensate for loss of earnings and a few fans asked me after the game if we would be setting something up for Ryan and we all feel this is the right thing to do.

So, if you can afford to throw a few quid into this fundraiser, I am sure it would go a long way to giving Ryan and his family some peace of mind while he begins the long road to recovery. We all hope it’s not too long before we see Birdy flying in amber and blue again.
