Kuo-Ting (Ken) Hung Memorial Fund

Kuo-Ting (Ken) Hung was a truly beloved and highly respected member of the Suffolk University community and an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of supply chain and operations management. Ken received his Ph.D. from University of Michigan in 2003 and joined Suffolk University. Since 2009, he had been the Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management and became the Director of the MSc in Business Analytics Program in 2017.

Ken dedicated himself to his work. He was a committed, effective, and caring leader and played an instrumental role in his department’s growth. Today, there are 350 undergraduate and graduate students studying in the department that he led. Over the course of his career, he taught more than 2,000 students. Ken contributed to the theory of behavioral supply chain and industrial marketing research and published in leading journals. He also collaborated with companies for professional and student consulting services.

We are beyond shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing of Ken, who had just started his first sabbatical leave in July after eighteen years’ service for the university. He had been battling cancer for the past five years, but he rarely discussed his health with us because he didn’t want to burden us. He was a real fighter, with a tremendously courageous soul that we admire deeply.

Ken was a trusted, humble and passionate colleague, and an inspiring, caring, and thoughtful mentor to his students. Everyone who had crossed paths with him feels honored and fortunate – impressed by his commitment, intelligence and integrity and touched by his big heart, warm smile, and authenticity. Ken’s passing leaves such a void in our lives and we cannot even imagine the impact on his family.

Ken leaves behind his wife Chia-Lin (Elly) Huang and two wonderful young sons, Derek and Victor Hung. If Ken has inspired you in any way, we would ask that you please consider a donation to his family during this heartbreaking time (however big or small). Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

Our memories of Ken will inevitably fade day by day, no matter how hard we try to keep them alive, but we hope that every piece of the memories will become a little part of us that help us to face the world with more openness, compassion, and kindness.

We already miss you so much, Ken! Rest in peace.
