Jessica's Smile

On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, my good friend, Jessica Forcier; 42 years old, suffered a stroke while sleeping. It was only when she awoke, and tried to get out of bed, that she realized something had happened. Anyone who is familiar with strokes understands just how crucial those moments are between suffering a stroke and receiving medical attention.  Fortunately, her 19-year-old son, Justas was home, and was able to get her to the hospital. She spent four days in the hospital before being able to go home…emphasis on able to go home!  Thankfully, Jessica survived and will eventually make a full recovery, according to her doctors.  However, that recovery may not be easy, which is why I have created this fund.  Jess is very humble and is not good at asking for help, although she would be the first person in line to help someone else. Jess potentially faces months of physical therapy to regain full control over her right (dominant) side, including help with her speech, and gaining the ability to fully flash that infectious smile those of us who know her love so much.  She has made great strides and would tell you she is 80%, but her doctors say it could take up to 3 months for full recovery.  Any time away from work is going to cause a financial burden for her, but possibly being away for weeks or months, could be devastating.

Jess is a mother, daughter, sister, caregiver and friend to so many.  In fact, I am not sure she has ever met a stranger; just a friend she hasn’t spoken to yet.  When she is not all of these things, she is bartending at Piccolos Bar, and is a force to be reckoned with on the shuffleboard table.  She works 6 days a week with some of her shifts being doubles. Most Fridays (her one day off), you will find Jess spending time with Dewayne, who is disabled and cannot fully take care of himself; running errands, taking him out to eat, just spending time with him.

I haven’t known Jess for years and years, as many have, but it did not take me long to see how selfless she is.  I see how patient and willing she is to help her 19-year-old son.  I see how easy she says “I got it” when someone says they don’t have money for a drink, or for something to eat.  I am quite certain she would literally give you the coat off her back if you needed it.

Right now, Jess needs all of us to be just as generous and loving as she would be for any of us!  Be it $100, $50, $10, $5, etc., every dollar helps!  This money will help supplement her income while she is unable to work, which will allow her to pay her bills and buy food.  This money will help pay for her medical bills and for her medication.  Most importantly, this money is going to allow Jess to focus on herself and focus on her recovery, so we can all once again see Jessica’s smile.
