This fundraiser is designed to raise money for the Richmond Outdoor Youth Program’s first summer trip to the New River Gorge in West Virginia! The OYP is an extension of the Outdoor Adventure Program started by Josh Tucker and LaTasha James at The Academy at Virginia Randolph in 2016 (more info here: https://oapavr.wordpress.com).
To kick off the OYP’s summer program, we plan on embarking on a three-day trip from June 26-29th, to The New River Gorge, where we will be taking the kids rafting, camping, rock climbing, and hiking. This trip will be done in collaboration with Adventures on the Gorge, who will help guide us on the rafting and rock climbing portions of the trip. None of our kids have experienced any of these activities, and some of them have never even been out of the state before. Needless to say, this could potentially be a life changing trip!
The ROYP was born out of our experiences founding and running the Outdoor Adventure Program at The Academy at Virginia Randolph. Since starting that program two years ago, we have been able to successfully take our students on a number of outdoors trips such as hiking, biking, and community service trips. Students who participate in our program have learned a great deal about teamwork, personal growth, and the many wonders of nature. The ROYP seeks to continue striving towards these same goals, while also providing youth with outdoor experiences that go far beyond anything they’ve experienced. We are truly excited to be able to give our kids this opportunity!
The goal for our summer trip $4,000. This goal covers the fees for camping, rock climbing, rafting, and various other travel expenses.
