September 18, 2017

The dedication was a great success. Please go to Ruthie's website to see some of the photos from that day.

We will keep this GoFundMe page open until October 1st so you can continue making donations that will go to the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation.

After this page is taken down, you can find more information on Ruthie's site about how to make contributions to the Foundation.

Ruthie's website is: http://www.ruthieoltmann.ca. Click on the "Ruthie's Blog" tab.

Thank you for making it possible for us to recognize this remarkable woman.

August 22, 2017, after reaching our goal.

Ruthie thanks her many wonderful
friends who have donated to her bench plaque. Watching the donations coming in, as Clarence Rabuka said, was more exciting than watching an election in Canada or the U.S.A.

Now that the goal of $750 has been reached Ruthie would like you to consider donating to the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation so they can continue their work of education and counting eagles and other raptors. Please visit their website for how to donate and to learn about the foundation and its activities.

In addition to the total amount given above, Janet Morgan de Bruyn, a friend of Ruthie's, has donated an additional $200 cash for the bench project. Thank you Janet!

Other friends, Les and Ruth Younghusband, have written a cheque for $25. Thank you Less and Ruth.

Gofundme total = $1,425
Cash donations = $225 - Grand total $l,650.00.

The dedication of the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation kiosk and Ruthie's bench will be September 16th at 2:30 p.m. in Hay Meadow.

To reach Hay Meadow take Hwy. 40 Kananaskis Trail south to the Nakiska/Kananaskis Village turn off. Stay strait on towards Nakiska and then turn right at the Stoney Trailhead sign. Follow the gravel road the short distance to a parking area. Walk around the metal gate and turn right onto the wide Hay Meadow Trail. Follow for one km to the bench/kiosk site. There will be lots of people doing the same thing. Try and arrive at 2:00 p.m.

Ruthie is planning on hiking to Troll Falls after the festivities. This will be a fun day.

Original message:

A few days ago, my wife Kathie and I took a hike with Ruthie Oltmann to the site where she has long wanted a bench along the Kananaskis River at Hay Meadow for the counters who record the Golden Eagle Migration. When we got to the site, we found that a bench had been erected by the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation less than a week earlier (photo of the bench attached). We asked if perhaps we could have the bench dedicated in honor of Ruthie.

The organization responded with a resounding "yes." In fact, rather than the usual fee of $3,500 for sponsoring a bench, we are responsible only for the $750 fee for making the custom bronze plaque that will honor Ruthie.

At Ruthie's request, any contributions beyond the $750 will be donated to the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation.

If you would like to join us in honoring our friend Ruthie for her many years of service in sharing her love of Kananaskis Country with the rest of the world, please make your contribution at the link provided.
