Russ Maddox has been fighting to keep our communities healthy and our kids safe for decades. Russ is a mentor to youth in Seward and around the state, he is an advocate for clean air and water, and he is a dear friend and colleague to people working for environmental health and conservation issues throughout Alaska and the whole country.
Russ is suffering from some serious health challenges right now, and is unable to work. He has found some locally available therapies that are helping, but they are very expensive and he has no insurance.

From Russ himself:
"I am dealing with complications from an inoperable brain tumor and my prognosis is not good. Without insurance I have even fewer options than I would if I had insurance. Mainstream medicine really has nothing else to offer me so I am focusing on a couple alternative therapies that are available locally in Seward. These therapies are very expensive.
"My Sierra Club family has helped with the costs of my treatments to date but I am back out on a limb again already.
"I am not getting worse so for now I will continue this treatment regime as long as I can afford it."
