Running for MAES Therapy

I and my amazing friends Louise, Gaby, Kat, Karen and Alice have decided to run the Amsterdam Half Marathon / Full Marathon on Sunday 15 October 2017 to raise money for MAES Therapy .

My daughter Maija was born at only 23 weeks and 5 days in December 2014. She had a very rough start and spent the first 6 months of her live in hospital. She’s overcome many issues but due to her extreme prematurity she has Cerebral Palsy (CP). CP is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects her movement and coordination.

MAES Therapy (http://www.maestherapy.com/ ) specialise in the treatment of children with movement and coordination difficulties caused by a variety of conditions (Cerebral Palsy, Erb’s palsy, acquired head injury etc.) The aim of MAES Therapy is to help children with neuro-developmental movement disorders, like Maija, achieve their maximum potential by providing the highest quality specialist physical therapy.

We have been taking Maija to see the MAES team since she was about 11 months old. The way they treat is quite unique to the other therapies that are available. Without their help she definitely wouldn’t be where she is now. She can now sit on her own, make steps with support, her understanding has developed, she feels comfortable in herself and is a happy little one, making progress from day to day. MAES Therapy provide a type of service that’s above and beyond anything else and we are extremely lucky to have them in our lives.

The money raised would be used to train therapists in the UK as well as in developing countries, to increase the knowledge and the clinical expertise and consequently help many children with Cerebral Palsy and their families. MAES Therapy also offer 4 free treatment sessions to families who are new to MAES.
