Running Wheelchair for Akron Marathon and More

Lucas is a remarkable child and has been given the opportunity to be the first Akron Children's Hospital “Traveling Hero” in the Akron Marathon. This means that I (Brent Ransom - father of Lucas) will have the privilege of pushing my son through the Akron Marathon to represent all children with special needs that there are no boundaries in life just mountain and hills. We have one more obstacle in our way and that is purchasing a running chair that I can push Lucas in during the Marathon. Our family is asking if you would share a part in this dream for Lucas and our family to participate in the Akron Marathon and many more Marathon’s and Ulta’s in the future for us.

The Story Behind Lucas

After the birth of our third child in 2016, I chose to become an avid runner starting off just to lose weight, then I found Ulta’s and I was hooked on pushing myself beyond my limits.  When the physical pain begins or my mind starts to tell me “I can't go any farther” I’m quickly reminded of our second child, Lucas. Lucas is 9 years old and is not only the glue of our family, but he is also the bravest, strongest, kindest person I have ever known and will ever know in my life.

Lucas’s story is difficult to share.  He was born fighting and has never stopped.  The simplest of things that so may take for granted are taxing on Lucas. You can find a quick snippet of his story at this link https://www.akronmarathon.org/lucas-ransom/

As a father who loves to run, it breaks my heart when Lucas grabs his shoes and is ready to go out and run with me but is physically unable. Having this running chair would allow me to say let's go, Lucas, giving us that father on son time together. It would also allow us to compete in Ultra’s together allowing him to see nature at it’s best and A night sky full of stars.

Our family is strong and close-knit.  We enjoy spending time together, engaging in activities together and being active overall.  To have the opportunity for all of us to be together on a run, or hike or bike ride is something that until now has not even be an option.  Being granted the opportunity to have, enjoy and utilize a running chair for our family, and specifically for Lucas to use, would be incredible for our family.  This would also grant our family more opportunities to participate in more running events and travel as a family.

I have had this picture in my mind of my wife pulling our youngest Norah behind her on her bike, Aiden our oldest running or riding his bike, then myself pushing Lucas in his running chair all as one family.
