Running my first (& last?) Marathon

Donation protected

It started innocently enough you know.  I couldn't motivate myself out the door, so for the first time in my life I signed up for a couch to 5k running course in January.  Then there was mention of a 10k.  And just before we'd made it to 10k there was mention of a marathon.  And then everyone else who'd mentioned it entered.

Then I nearly vomited.

And so here we are.  I'm nearly sick again writing this.  Because apparently it's happening.  In five sleeps.

But it's great.  And it's been great, and difficult, and taxing, and cold, wet and windy, and a logistical challenge with three young ones and a self employed other half with unpredictable hours.  But it's also been sunny with blue skies and I haven't always felt like I was about to keel over.  So that's a plus.

Training kicked off in mid July.  And this week we're tapering.  I like tapering.

I didn't want to jinx anything by fundraising for a cause but now I think it'd be rude not to.  If this does nothing more than make one person ensure their next of kin knows their donor wishes then it'll have been worth it.

A member of our family was saved by an organ donor.  She was five months old and her parents had minutes to get ready to be air ambulanced to London for transplant.

Children's Liver Disease Ireland helps families like my sister's.  They provide practical help on the ground.  They're a small organisation but a massively worthy cause.

Thanks regardless.
