Running for Red Cloud - John's 26.2

Tax deductible
My goal was to run Boston when I turned 50 but with the cancellation of the races, I will be turning 52 just before this year's race.  I have decided to complete the 2021 Boston Marathon to celebrate this milestone and future ones, being happy, healthy and active.

I am also running in appreciation of our brother-in-law - Eddie Jacobs - and his 50th year of producing the Marathon!

In recognition of Eddie's milestone and the many notable acts of volunteerism which the Boston Marathon stands for, Kathryn and I are raising funds for the Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Kathryn and I support the Red Cloud, Lakota community and are doing what we can to help students reach their goals.

In collaboration with and support by Dormify CEO, Karen Zuckerman, we are going to help this year's graduating seniors, make their new college experience as close to home as possible.  We all know those first few weeks of college are difficult but knowing you have the essentials, and items to help create your college nest, can only help in assimilating to school.

It will cost between $300 for each student to get everything drop-shipped to campus, in advance of their arrival.  (Towels, sheets, pillows, blanket, desk lamp, shower caddy, etc.)

Will you join us in supporting these kids?

Wish us luck and thanks for the support,

John & Kathryn

More about Pine Ridge:

The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is beset with problems, mostly arising from poverty and the cultural damage caused by destructive government programs of assimilation.

- 80 percent of residents are unemployed.
- 12 percent of residents have earned a bachelor’s degree.
- With a per capita income of $6,286, the reservation is the second poorest area in the United States.
- 61 percent of residents 17 years and younger live below the poverty line.
- Life expectancy is the lowest in the Western Hemisphere except for Haiti, with an average of 48 years for men and 52 years for women.
- The infant mortality rate is five times higher than the United States national average.

Red Cloud Indian School is addressing the needs of the people of the Pine Ridge Reservation. Red Cloud Indian School teaches the students to be proud of their Lakota culture, language and spirituality. Red Cloud also gives students the educational tools needed for today, by teaching math, science, English, computer science, etc. Their pastoral ministry team helps support people as they deal with the extreme poverty, substance abuse and the despair that can accompany it.
