Running for Queens Hospital Center

On Sunday, November 5th 2017, I will once again run in the New York City Marathon.  This year however is a little different as I am running to raise funds for the Cancer Care Unit and the Research Department at the Queens Hospital Center, Jamaica, Queens, NY.  I was personally affected by Breast Cancer and diagnosed on November 20th, 2012 so reaching this 5-year survivor milestone is very special to me.  I am currently participating in a 10-year Research Study under the wonderful care of Linda Bulone, Research Nurse Manager at the Queens Hospital Center.  I am forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital who have treated me over the last 5 years and continue to do so.  They have delivered such expert care and compassion to me and without their support and indeed all the support from my wonderful friends and family in New York and Ireland, undertaking this 26.2 mile trek was something I did not think was possible for me to do again.  Thankfully I am one of the lucky ones and now in remission.  Hopefully my diagnosis and participation in the research study will help in some way in the treatment of breast cancer patients in the future.
