Running For Jackie

For those who didn’t know Jackie Henderson, she was a remarkable woman . We lost her tragically last summer, but her spirit lives on in so many ways. She was an adventurous, beautiful, smart, athletic, funny, and a loving human being. She was also a dedicated runner. Jackie was a star from younger days all the way up to coaching at the school where she also taught. She was a friend, a sister, a daughter, a teacher, and a coach to name a few. I was lucky enough to call a Jackie a dear friend of mine, and plan on honoring her life the only way I can think of - running. 

Jackie ran cross country at Hunter College. She was a was a six-time conference All-Star & a member of two CUNYAC Championship cross country teams (2010 and 2011). 

A scholarship in Jackie’s honor has been fully funded at Oyster Bay High School. However, family and close friends are also in the process is setting up a different scholarship. This will be through the school at which she taught and coached, North Monterey County High School in California.

I’ll running the Bridgehampton Half Marathon this May. I’ve never even ran more than 6 miles... but I know she’ll be with me through all the training.
