Rune Martinson Memorial

Rune Martinson, a beloved husband, father and a friend to many, passed away on August 9, 2018 at the age of 38 after a difficult battle with metastatic renal cell cancer.

To those that knew Rune, he could best be described as one of the most kind, thoughtful and creative individuals you will meet in your lifetime. He had wonderful integrity, a steadfast work ethic, and a humbleness that touched many. Rune had a love of family, friends, design, and the outdoors. His laugh and smile were contagious. He was always interested in learning more about people and connecting with the world around him. Rune had a talent for making those he came across feel special and supported.

Rune was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana. He enjoyed spending his time hiking, camping and adventuring. Rune moved to Seattle in 2006 where he worked as an architect at Suyama Peterson Deguchi and then at Olson Kundig.  He married his perfect match, Patricia (Patty) Flores, in the summer of 2011. The two enjoyed the beauty of the Pacific Northwest together with many outdoor adventures, one of their favorite being taking their Old Town canoe out. If Rune and Patty weren’t out exploring, they could often be found working together on projects at their home in West Seattle. In June 2017, Rune and Patty welcomed the birth of their twins, Nelsen and Harriet, two rays of sunshine that light up the room for anyone they encounter.

Many of you have expressed an interest in helping Patty and the kids. In honor of Rune's memory, this fund was created to start 529 education savings plans for Nelsen and Harriet, and to help with other care for the children. If you would prefer to help out in a different way, you can donate to the Washington Trails Association (www.wta.org) or the West Seattle Food Bank in Rune's memory to help carry on his love of the outdoors and his kindness towards others.

Your outpouring of generosity has been greatly appreciated by Patty and the rest of the Martinson and Flores families. The love, compassion, and support has meant so much to all of us during this difficult time. We know Rune felt both humbled and in awe of the numerous ways so many of you have reached out and been helpful to himself, Patty, Nelsen, and Harriet in the past year. We want to express our deep gratitude as we continue to be amazed by the wonderful people Rune and Patty know. Thank you for all your love and support.
