Today, two relay teams completed the 26.2 marathon and others completed the 5K to raise awareness for Lyme Disease research.  It was my honor to support Dr. Aucott and his team with their important research.  We raised $1,653!  There is still time to donate, too!

CAN YOU DONATE $1 FOR EVERY YEAR I HAVE BATTLED LYME DISEASE?   $17 DONATION IS ALL I ASK.  MY STORY BELOW.

MY STORY:

Hi everyone..... I'm getting ready to take another "bite" out of Lyme Disease on Saturday, October 20 at the Baltimore Marathon Relay to raise awareness and funds for the Johns Hopkins Lyme Disease Research Center.

As you many of you know I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2001  --  AFTER 2 years of numerous misdiagnoses.  While I thought I would simply take some antibiotics and be cured -- I was totally wrong.  Instead, the past 17 years has taken me on an endless journey of doctor appointments, tests, medicines, aches, pains and never ending fatigue with so much lost time with family, friends and work.

Dr.  Aucott of the Lyme Disease Research Center saved my life in 2012.  While I looked healthy on the outside, I was literally falling apart inside and out.  My smile and laughter remained constant, yet I was drowning in a sea of aches and pain.

Dr. Aucott taught me that patients who were not properly treated/diagnosed suffer from chronic or post treatment Lyme Disease.  He helped me define my "new normal".   I was not crazy -- everything I felt and experienced physically and mentally was real !!

Slowly, I began to exercise.  Walk, run, walk, run and then I joined a gym.  And, then I started Spartan obstacle course racing.   Since then, I haven't turned back.  Yes...I am exhausted after the gym or a race.  Yes....my knees, ankles and elbows ache constantly.  Yes....I sleep a lot (and I'm still tired!) Yes.....there are days upon days I want to stay home in bed!  And, yes.....I don't go out much on the weekend.  I say  "no" to a lot of things -- but I know what works for me.    There is NO obstacle that I can't overcome in my "new normal!"

Did you know that Lyme disease is one of the fastest growing infectious diseases in the country and one of the most difficult to diagnose?  Experts in the medical and scientific community, as well as key legislators, have deemed Lyme disease an epidemic … a national public health crisis!

Dr. John Aucott and his team at the Lyme Disease Research Center are focused on development of accurate diagnostic tests for ALL stages of Lyme disease.

I would truly appreciate your support to help  raise funds and awareness with a donation to help Dr.  Aucott and his team continue with this critical Lyme disease research.    Donate quickly and easily with the BUTTON to the top right (computer) or left (smartphone).

Every step I take on October 20 at the Baltimore Marathon Relay is a step so that no one else has to go through the journey that I have taken and continue to take.
