On Oct. 7^th I will be running the Chicago Marathon in support of the (IILC/KM) Illinois Independent Living Center/Katherine Manor. The IILC/KM is a local non-profit organization that provides wheelchair accessible-barrier free housing.  This small non-profit organization is close to my heart because that's where my cousin Chris lives. Well he's actually my husband's cousin, but I claim him tooJ.  

Chris is 43 and was born with CP or Cerebral Palsy.  Because Chris has CP he is unable to walk, talk or use his arms. Despite these physical limitations Chris has earned a Masters Degree in Software Engineering at DePaul University.  Chris is dependent on caregivers to provide all his needs.  Such as feeding, bathing and dressing.  However thanks to the IILC/KM Chris has the dignity of living independently.

Since moving into Katherine Manor over a year ago Chris is no longer confined to a manual wheelchair where mobility required his elderly father to move him around his childhood home.  Chris now has the freedom to move around independently in his power wheelchair in his barrier free home whenever he wants, wherever he wants.

100% of your donation will directly impact Chris and the residents at Katherine Manor and give them the opportunity and dignity to live independently.   IILC/KM invests in the rights of people with disabilities to live with independence, freedom by designing and effectively managing affordable barrier-free housing.
