Run & Hike The Length of Nepal

Mel is raising money for 2 charities, Women's Aid and Community Action Nepal. Both charities mean a lot to me, having visited Nepal in November 2019 I got to see the great work that CAN have done in the remote mountain villages. These villages are now struggling to survive without tourism, loss of income and facing faming due to lack of seed production as the country experiences a knock on effect caused by Covid 19.

Women's Aid helps some of the UKs most vulnerable woman, surviving domestic and sexual abuse. It is more important than ever that support is at hand to these women.

I would really like to inspire other women to find confidence in themselves. Being outdoors with nature is one of the best ways to improve mental health and wellbeing. If I can do this challenge then hopefully other women will be encouraged to take to the hills, go for a walk or even a run.

As the money raised will be split equally between the two charities I have set up this page rather than a charity page because it is not possible to chose more than 1 charity. You can contact Community Action Nepal and Women's Aid if you would like to verify my fundraising with them.

Mel will run and hike over 546 miles equalling the total length of Nepal - but in the UK,

Kicking it off with a race on 15th August which equates to the Lukla to Everest Base camp return trek, (42 Miles, 3000m Ascent) The Lakes Mountain 42 Ultra Marathon in The Lake District will be the start to Mel’s campaign.

On 10th September Mel will then set out from her home nr Penrith, Cumbria to hike all 214 Wainwrights totalling around 340 miles and over 36,000 meters of ascent. Mel plans to take around 11 days to complete the hike, stopping on route to sleep in her van or if she is lucky - a room may be offered to her on the occasional evening.

Once recovered from the Wainwrights and caught up on running her business Due North Events, Mel plans to run/hike The Dales Way - However, she will again start from home taking in Askham Fell, the old Roman Road to High Street and head down into Bowness where the official Dales Way route starts. This will add 20 miles to the official way making it a total of around 100 miles.

The final stage of Mel’s journey will be from her family home town of Skipton, following the Lady Anne’s Way, a 100 mile route back to Penrith.
