Please help support 15 year old Rumi, his family and his father,
Manasvi [ Benjamin Storey. ]
Hi, Vimal here.
I'm Rumi's godfather and have been a close friend of Manasvi's for over 30 years.
I'm moved to share how urgent and challenging his situation is and to ask one and all for help.
Rumi has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer - [Mediastinal Grey Zone Lymphoma].
This diagnosis came after 4 months of him not being well and undergoing numerous medical and surgical procedures.
This has been a huge shock to family and friends... and Rumi hasn't been able to attend school since April this year.
He is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane on a 3 week cycle, for a minimum of 6 cycles plus potential radiotherapy.
A family member is with Rumi 24 hours a day, every day.
An initial surgical procedure in April.
His tumour is responding to treatment and he is almost half way through this intensive stage of the process.
His dad is presently unable to work full time and fundraising is needed to support the family finances for;
- Supplementary therapies, including counselling, accupuncture,
and massage.
- A nutritionist and a fully organic diet. This is being tailored to
his ongoing needs and health fluctuations.
Included in this are numerous naturopathic supplements.
- Accommodation, travel and parking costs.
- Tutoring costs, as soon as he is able participate in this.
- Ongoing expenses during recovery.
Heading up to Brisbane from Byron Bay...
After a 3 week cycle in hospital Rumi heads home to Byron for a 5 day holiday.
To be a normal kid for a bit.
I look for adjectives to describe this whole situation... but words are too small a medium for times like this.
What I know is that everyone involved in this needs help. Needs sleep, needs friends, needs support in whatever way it can be given.
