My Corgi Rufus' Hospital Bills!!!

(Amber knows of this project now and has written a message for you all to see. And pictures too!)

You all are completely amazing. Rufus and I are endlessly grateful for your ongoing love and support. He is doing much, much better these days - he is still going in for weekly vet visits and we are working on finding a long term treatment plan for him.

After his hospital visit, his biopsy results diagnosed him with lymphangiectasia, which is a chronic form of protein losing enteropathy. It's a condition that needs to be consistently monitored to make sure his protein levels don't drop too low (which is what happened and led to the emergency room visit.) Right now, his blood work isn't fully back up to normal - a lot of things including his albumin levels are on the low side of normal, and because of him taking prednisone as his steroid treatment, his liver functions have been elevated and now we are looking for a new solution. He's also gone from 30lbs to 21lbs, and he needs to gain four pounds to go back up to a normal weight.

(wow, so skinny dog)

Fortunately, Rufus has been reacting incredibly well to steroid treatment, and now it is just about finding the right one. He will be transitioning off of prednisone in the next few weeks and instead onto a compounded medication including budesonide, and is also taking weekly B vitamin shots to help him remain stabilized (which will taper off to every other week, and then monthly for a while.)

Your financial support has been such a help. All of your donations have been so appreciated, and even as the costs continue building up, seeing this little dog's health improve makes all of it worthwhile. I love this little guy. Rufus is a great, phenomenal creature, and I would do anything and everything to see him get well again. Again, you guys have rocked my world and made this ordeal a little more bearable- both for my spirit as well as my bank account.

In full, his emergency visit and time with a vet internal medicine specialist cost $3626.61. Before his emergency visit, I had 3 separate check ups anticipating something was wrong (look at that picture Kevin posted!) He had an X-ray done, an ultrasound done, blood work taken and a urinalysis for $576.68. Now, doing weekly blood work checks and getting a vitamin B injection runs $147 per week, and his medications will be about $50 a month. For the foreseeable future, he'll have vet visits every week for the next six weeks, then every other week for four months, and then monthly for at least six months. A dollar, five dollars, twenty dollars, or even a word of support is so helpful to Rufus and me in this adventure.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I love you guys forever and always.
