In Loving Memory of Murphy Olivia

Donation protected
After 211 days, three hospitals, six rooms and God knows how many tests and complications, our beautiful niece, Murphy Olivia had no choice but to let my brother Paul and his wife Asha know she couldn’t fight anymore. With shattered hearts, they followed her lead and released her peacefully.

Life’s a struggle, with little beautiful surprises that make you want to carry on through all the challenges. Murphy was exactly that... a beautiful surprise! We are all so lucky to have had her for as long as we did and we never want her life to be in vain.

Given the incredible love, support and care she received, we wanted to give back to the hospital. So in her memory Paul &  Asha would like to fund an essential machine needed by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Gold Coast University Hospital to help future “Murphys” make it through.

They have worked with the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation to find a machine on their medical equipment wishlist for Gold Coast Health.

They are hoping to be able to have a get a Servo-n-machine which will give the youngest and most vulnerable patients a greater chance at growth.

The medical intervention the Servo-n allows Gold Coast Health NICU staff to achieve with our youngest, most vulnerable patients may allow for more sleep, greater energy for growth and maturation, and less long-term lung disease.

The Servo-n provides additional ventilator modes not supported by the machines currently available in the NICU. Ideally, all babies who start requiring support are managed with a CPAP machine but about 45 percent of babies younger than 29 weeks need further treatment.

The amazing Servo-n measures and synchronises to the baby's own effort to provide ventilation without requiring a breathing tube. The Servo-n lowers the baby's work of breathing, increases comfort and reduces the need for sedation.

So far collectively we have already raised $60,000 (Australian Dollars) towards a goal of $86,000 (Australian Dollars) a lovely memorial to a truly beautiful soul

Claire and I are hoping to be able to raise £1k ie $1.8k (Australian Dollars) with a sponsored Couch to 5K. Neither of us are runners but it is a challenge that we hope will help us support the funds needed to purchase the Servo-n in Murphy’s memory.
