My name is Fabiola Moreno Ruelas and I am from Gonzales, California, a “small town with a big heart”, that helped my family and I obtain the resources we needed to build our lives when we first arrived in Gonzales. My community has swarmed around me in multiple occasions: providing me with my first school uniform, allowing me to amplify my voice and that of my peers, and equipping me with the tools needed to take on the biggest transition of my life-moving to San Diego State University to pursue my college aspirations.
My experiences as a first-generation college student who was raised by a single mother and overcame adversity, combined with the generous support I have received from my community, have allowed me to find my purpose, that is to assure that no one endures the same hardships that I have had to overcome.
The Ruelas Fulfillment Scholarship allows me to do just that. I founded this scholarship to support students and ease the financial burden they may face as they pursue higher education.
This year the Ruelas Fulfillment Scholarship awarded four students five hundred dollars ($500) each. Students who have demonstrated academic achievement, a will to change their community, and resiliency.
I ask you, my community to continue supporting these students by donating to our Go Fund Me page or sharing this information with potential donors.
