Ruby Woo Pilgrimage: Annie Rim

Growing up, I never went on a "missions trip." There were many reasons for this but one main one was that I felt uncomfortable asking for money. When I applied to be part of the Ruby Woo Pilgrimage, I assumed I'd just quietly pay for myself.

But, while this pilgrimage will be a lot of listening and learning from my peers, it's not just about me and what I can do on my own. It's about coming together, supporting each other, and practicing a form of reparation.

The more I thought about the need to ask my community to help raise money, not just for me but for two other women to join this journey, I realized that this first step is part of a bigger picture. It's my first step toward leaning in and using my own privilege to repair and learn from history.

Here's the Story:

Imagine 40 diverse Christian women leaders on a three-day pilgrimage through the intersectional stories of women's struggles to secure and maintain THE RIGHT TO VOTE in the U.S., from 1833 to present.

From Seneca Falls to New York City to Atlantic City to Capitol Hill. We will be empowered by the stories of our foremothers and equipped to change the world today! Then on Capitol Hill we will meet with our congressional representatives to raise one clarion call: “Fix the Voting Rights Act now!”

This is the #RubyWooPilgrimage.

Why RubyWoo? Ruby Woo is a bright red lipstick color. For us, it is a metaphor--a symbol--of the God-ordained power that many women of faith have been trained to hide. (Here's an article  by our founder, Lisa Sharon Harper with more detail about how the trip was first imagined: Hear the Pulpits Roar )

Each participant is responsible for raising the funds for their registration. Frank & I have set aside money for my own journey but I've committed to fundraising support for two other participants who could use the help!

Our deadline is October 1, 2018.

Meet the #RubyWooPilgrimage Core Team: Lisa Sharon Harper, Barbara Brown, Ruthie Johnson, Micky ScottBey Jones, Jazmine Steele, & Katie Zimmerman

The RubyWooPilgrimage is convened by Freedom Road, LLC .
