Dan and Kayla Ruby have been residents of Watford City for close to 7 years now. About 2 year ago Dan started struggling with what was thought to be simply a bad knee. Over time he went from a barely noticeable limp to having to drag his leg while using a cane to keep himself steady. Dan's wife Kayla has been a stay at home mom to two beautiful little girls ages 2&4 and has been Dan's greatest advocate and biggest help throughout this ordeal. 6 months ago The Ruby's learned that the "bad knee" was actually a "bulging disc" and later revealed that it in fact was a bigger problem all together. After scans, bloodwork and a spinal tap in Williston, ND they learned that Dan's problems were a much deeper issue and he in fact has Progressive MS. That same week they got unexpected news that they would be welcoming another baby into this world. Dan has been an employee of Dakota Housing RV Park, and took on managerial duties just over a year ago. This is the same RV park that was struck by the unexpected tornado. Dan and Kayla didnt even hesitate to jump into action helping everyone around them with everything from clean up, to taking care of the people who lost their homes, to even helping raise money for those affected by it. Not once stopping to assess the damages they faced and the emotions that had been pushed to the wayside. Since then, business has slowed and a new management has came in and decided that as manager Dan should be helping in all aspects of the RV park including but not limited to maintenance and yard work. Things Dan physically can no longer due without further medical intervention and help which they are actively seeking. Later the new management team met with Dan and promised him a new job description as well as gave new ideas they had to move forward none of which they followed through on. Last week they came in and let Dan go.
Currently the Ruby's are working for a second opinion on Dan's back at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN in a week however this comes with fear, frustration, and stress due to the job loss, a new baby on the way, and trying to find a place to live as the job Dan had provided housing. This family has been through the ringer and I know as a community we can pull together and help them get back on their feet and keep them in this wonderful town we have all come to call home.
They plan on leaving on January 21st and will be in Rochester for a week.  With losing Dans income, and having to put money down on a new place to live, they are seeing funds dwindle.  We are asking for your prayers and help to fund this trip so they can have the an amazing team of doctors help him get on the right path!   We are planning on doing a breakfast benefit soon as well but figured this trip will cost them around $2000 with lodging, gas, food, and what ever else comes their way!
