I am writing this today with a heavy heart but to ask for help, no matter how small. My brother Ruben tragically passed away on Saturday Nov 18th at 33 years old due to health complications. Ruben arrived in New York from Puerto Rico to live with my mom and just over a year ago. He quickly established himself in Long Beach and worked his way up to a become a manager. He was a quiet, kind, and very sweet man. He never said a bad word about anyone, and rarely complained of his difficult situations in life.
Ruben’s passing was sudden and unexpected, and there was no way of knowing just how rapidly his health would decline, and there was only so much preparation that we could do as a family before his untimely death. Financially my mother and I cannot afford a wake and funeral. Furthermore, our family in Puerto Rico is in a equally dire economic position.
I am asking for your assistance today in the form of donation so that we can honor my brother here in New York so that his loved ones here can have the opportunity to say a proper goodbye. It would take an enormous burden off my mother to know at the minimum, after this trashed, at least her son was getting the memorial services he deserves.
Any amount donated is deeply appreciated and we as a family would be eternally grateful. We are trying to raise at least $5,000 in donations considering that funeral arrangements cost upward of $7000.
Ruben was a shy, introverted man who was trying his best to establish his life here in New York. He was an observer- a gentle, kind-hearted soul. My wish is to give my brother a memorial service that honors who he was as a person, and exemplifies just how loved he was by his friends and family here in New York as well as in Puerto Rico.
