On August 30, 2017, our dear Ruairí went into the hospital with a bad infection. After several tests they determined that she had a UTI from a rare form of bacteria. After getting her on the right meds, her fever went down, and she was discharged on September 3rd with oral meds and a smile on her face.
On September 13th she was hit with another infection, this time doctors were unsure of the source, but were testing for every possible bacterial infection and virus.
After several days in the hospital filled with many tests along the way, they diagnosed her with Bacterial Meningitis on September 17, 2017 after 5 days in the hospital. Ruairí will need to be on high doses of IV antibiotics for the next 3 weeks and will be receiving a PICC line on September18 to help administer the long-term antibiotics. Her hospital stay will be anywhere from 7 days to a month.
As you can imagine, the hospital stay, testing, and 24 hour monitoring and care costs are significant, not to mention the loss of wages, the cost of living in a hospital, are continuing to add up beyond their initial expectations.
Any amount that you give will go towards helping ease that stress and helping to extend the time Ciara and Connor are able to stay with Ruairí in the hospital and continue to oversee her care as she recovers from this devastating infection. As the doctors continue testing and determine a firm care plan, we will be sure to update this site as necessary.
Ciara and Connor are in the hospital 24 hours a day, away from their home, and away from their jobs. They eat all of their meals at the hospital, which are not provided by the hospital. To help them keep their energy up, and sanity, they would greatly appreciate any Bite Squad gift cards to help piece together their meals so they can stay with Ruairí throughout this process.
