Help Christianne Keep Her Home

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

This campaign isn't for me, it's for my best friend Christianne Benedict. She doesn't know I'm doing this and there isn't much time, so I'm going to get down to the nitty gritty.

Christianne's been dealing with some hard times for, well, the last several years. She doesn't talk about it a lot - it's not a happy or easy thing to do - but since losing her job in a downsizing effort several years ago, things have been on a downward spiral. She's worked a stream of temp jobs while seeking permanent re-employment, but thus far, nothing has panned out for more than a week or two at a time. She's also put her energy towards her freelance art career, and while that's helped, it hasn't provided anything like financial stability. In the meantime, she's gone without things, like needed medications and doctors visits, just to make ends meet.

When she first lost her job, she and her partner were a two-car household. Then one of their cars collapsed beneath them and they had to figure out ways to make one car work - a difficult prospect for a pair of rural Missourians, and one that severely limits job-seeking opportunities. Then last week their remaining car was totaled in an accident. Their insurance, as you might expect for a couple struggling to make ends meet, won't reimburse for anything and the driver at-fault for the accident was uninsured.

As if this wasn't bad enough, they found out today their house is being foreclosed on. They have about ten days to come up with $5000+ or else lose their home.

They've already lost their cars. Christianne lost her  job a few years ago. The house is about all they have left. In fact, she has no idea where she'll go if the house is taken from her...there isn't a safety net awaiting her after foreclosure.

The $8000 goal seems steep, but it's what she will need to get her house out of foreclosure and to maybe put a car back on the road. In truth, she needs more than that, because next month's mortgage is always just a few weeks away, but none of that means anything if we can't find some help for her now.

Christianne is someone who deserves better. She's advocated for human rights on the steps of her state capitol, run a support group for trans* people, been a judge for local film festivals and a programmer for her local art house theater, and created art and literature that help reveal the intricacies of lives like her own...and my own. She's hugely important and respected in her communities, but unfortunately, those things don't pay the bills. She's given way more than she's ever asked for, so I'll ask for her: Is there some way you can help?
