Help Us Move Into Our New Space

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Rock Paper Scissors Collective (RPSC), and any donation will help make an impact.

After a couple years of searching we’ve found a new space that will include retail, gallery, workshop and event space all in one location. We need support from our community to make our new home a reality. Please donate (below) to allow us to continue making the arts accessible to all.

What makes RPSC special?

- 80% of our community (ranging from youth to seniors) is low-income. Our free, low-cost, and sliding-scale art classes allow people to access new modes of self expression, meet people, and build creative networks.

- The gallery and store are welcoming spaces for amateur and emerging artists from under-represented communities, prioritizing Oakland-based creators.

- We work with underserved through Oakland Public Library and OUSD, and our youth intern program teaches organizational, curatorial, and entrepreneurial skills. Multiple RPSC interns have gone on to graduate from prestigious local art schools, such as the California College of the Arts.

- There are opportunities for youth and adults of all ages to get involved through volunteering, teaching, and/or exhibiting artwork
Through community collaboration programs, we work with local businesses, organizations, and institutions to create unique offerings for diverse audiences.

ABOUT RPSC
Rock Paper Scissors Collective (RPSC) was formed in 2004 by a group of emerging artists within the Oakland arts communities (not only visual arts, but textiles, music, film, writing, etc.). They saw need for a place that would enable Oakland artists to exhibit, sell, collaborate, teach, and learn. After a year or so of fundraising, RPSC moved into the storefront at 2278 Telegraph Ave, in uptown Oakland.

In 2005, RPSC and a coalition of nearby galleries founded Oakland Art Murmur, which eventually grew into the Oakland First Fridays street festival. Of the organizations that founded these hallmark events, RPSC is the sole survivor. In 2016, RPSC was displaced from its iconic storefront due to the continually rising cost of rent. For the past few years, RPSC has operated out of a studio gallery at 416 26th Street, and our passion to support art for and by the people of Oakland is as strong as ever.

Rock Paper Scissors Collective is a member-directed, all volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that fosters creativity and collaboration in order to strengthen local communities, encourage sustainable practices, and explore alternative models. We promote the sharing of ideas, skills, and resources through the celebration of art, craft, education, and performance.

RPSC currently realizes this mission through free and low-cost classes, curated and open call art shows, retail of independently produced and handmade goods, pop-up art workshops, a variety of community events, and youth involvement.

Join us for a class, an event, or a meeting! All are welcome.
