Thank you for taking the time to read my story. My name is Roxane Hayes and I am 51 years old. Here is my story:

Once upon a time at the age of 24 I experienced my first stroke. Then again when I was 27 years old. The doctor determined both strokes were due to pregnancy. Pregnancy is supposed to be a joyous time for most but for me it was devastating, sad, frustrating, debilitating and most of all caused severe hardship to my life. At the time of both strokes I was physically in the best shape of my life, however, that changed in an instant. Due to my strokes I lost all functioning on my right side. I wasn't able to walk, talk, take care of myself and had to rely on family and friends. I was in the hospital for two weeks, then moved to an inpatient rehab facility for six weeks and thereafter was in outpatient rehab for another year. Because of my stubbornness I was able to walk, talk and take care of myself again only by the grace of God.

Fast forward to to the completion of rehab I was able to return back to work and got married to a wonderful husband, Steve. In November we will celebrate 21 years of marriage. Shocking, I know!!! I couldn't be more grateful! Steve and I adoped our first child, Koby (a chihuahua/yorkie terrier mix) when he was six weeks old. Koby's daddy thinks that I am stepping out on him with Koby because of his Havenese looks. I have to agree. In all seriousness though Koby is the joy of our lives and we couldn't imagine life without him.

I have had the privilege to work as a Security Supervisor for 15 years. For the last year and a half I have been working as regular officer at a private gated community. Three months ago I began to experience intense headaches...not your typical headaches. The intensity of my headaches lasted a week long and caused me to visit my primary care doctor immediately. He referred me to a neurologist due to my past history of strokes. The neurologist began a series of tests and soon after an MRI. The MRI revealed a lack of oxygen flowing to the left side of my brain. The neurologist immediately sent me to a neurosurgeon. I visited the neurosurgeon a month ago and once again in an instant my life changed. The neurosurgeon determined I needed an urgent bypass of the blood vessels to increase the blood flow to the left side of my brain. If I don't have the surgery I have a high risk for future strokes.

Present time I am waiting for the neurosurgeon to clear his schedule to perform my urgent surgery most likely to happen within the next three weeks.  This is where I need your help. My insurance company only covers a certain percentage of my surgery, hospital stay, and rehab. Let's not forget being out of work for possibly 1-2 months and possibly longer. Unfortunately, I am in need of help. Help with my pre-op testing, surgery, hospital stay and rehab. I can't do this alone and I don't have time to wait. My life depends on this surgery. Please find it in your heart to donate to my medical fund so that I can continue living a healthy life. I need to make sure both my boys are well taken care of and I am not ready to leave them.
