I’m just a dad rowing to raise money and awareness for a condition close to my heart.
It’s a race against time to find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. A race that no kid should ever have to face. Muscular dystrophy is a pool of conditions where part of the dystrophin gene in our muscles is missing. This means muscles lack the ability to recover and lose strength quickly. This often leads to losing the ability to walk at a young age, often bound to a wheelchair by the last years of primary school. Eventually, the muscles responsible for breathing weaken, leading to an early death. People with Duchenne are lucky to live to late 20s.
Today is World Duchenne Day. I wanted to release the details to my fundraiser in line with this day. I’ve decided to race a 24 hour clock and attempt to break the WR on an indoor rower. It currently stands at 318.106km. It’ll be a challenge, but nothing like these kids face on a daily occurrence.
