There was a tragedy that happened at my home in Windsor Colorado. My three girlfriends and myself were out celebrating my magazine publication that was released that day. And my very good friend Ryan Rogina who I’ve know for almost 15 years offered to babysit my 6 year old daughter Ava for the night. My friends and I all met up at Pitchers Sports Restaurant in Fort Collins by 7:30pm. Everything seemed to be okay and we even stopped back at my house to drop my truck off before going to another place in Greeley. We all hung out for a few at my house and I remember giving Ryan one last hug before leaving. But little did I know that would be my last...When we finally left Starlite Station in Greeley around 12:44 am we headed back to my house and got back just before 1am. When we got to my house we noticed Ryan’s lifeless body laying on the gravel. We all ran over to him and knew he was gone, and that he had been shot. In that moment I screamed and ran inside to find my daughter. As soon as I stepped inside I saw the man who shot Ryan, he walked towards me holding a gun towards my face. I fell to the ground and held my hand up begging him not to shoot me and to please stop. He never said a word he just looked at me with a look in his eyes that I will never forget...all I could hear was Ava in her room screaming and in that moment I thought I’d never see her again.  But I truly believe I had an angel watching over me because he left the house and then went outside where he held my three friends at gun point. Thank god nobody else was hurt. I ran into my daughter’s room and she was laying halfway under her bed trying to hide. I just remember holding her in my arms. My friends then came inside, we locked the back door to make sure he couldn’t get back in and we all hid in my daughter’s closet. I then remembered there was a crawl space in the closet so we opened it up and we all jumped inside and huddled together under the house until help arrived...when we got to the hospital I found out that my daughter was strangled and assaulted. Her face was covered in bruises and all over her neck. I was in shock and devastated. I can’t even begin to imagine the horror she felt and the trauma she endured.

This tragedy caused trauma to everyone involved and has brought so much hardship. It has also taken Ava’s father away from work so we are financially stressed. After everything that happened at that house and the memories it now brings I don’t think I could ever go back let alone put our daughter in that position. She’s been through enough.

Asking for help is very difficult but this has completely turned our life around and it’s been very difficult emotionally and financially. I lost someone who was very special to me and almost lost my daughter, my own life as well as my friends and it’s been tremendously heartbreaking to think about. Ryan loved and adored Ava with all of his heart and I just know he died a hero trying to protect her.

My family and I are hoping to raise money for moving expenses/moving company, things for Ava/needs, fuel, food, and motel accommodations until we are able to find another place to go. Anything helps and anything is appreciated. We are doing our best to stay strong and keep our heads up. It’s been a blessing to have so much support through this difficult time. If your able to help in any way we just want you to know how incredibly thankful we are. Thankyou.
