7 night sleepout looking at access to services

I have worked in Homelessness for a lot of years and come across the same stories about how people are treated , how they are looked down upon and the lack of real time help , I have also had people telling me that it is safer on the streets and that they are scared when they are in night shelters or hostels , I am going to be spending 7 nights on the streets and will be recording a video blog , I will not have any money on me unless it is given to me and will not use emergency accommodation as I will be taking up a place that could be used by somebody else . I will however feed myself and take part in begging if that is what i have to do , I have decided to do this at this time of year as it will provide me more information on how services are working together ,how much help there is available and what hoops if any there are to jump through to get the help . Also i would like to find out more about  some of the myths on the streets around having to pay for Hostels or if dogs are allowed  As I was homeless back in the late 80's early 90's this will also give me a fresh insight into the changes that have occurred in this time . I will be contacting the BBC and ITV to see if they will run a piece on this as I believe that the insight gained would be invaluable. The cost of keeping somebody on the streets is approx £23k p.a this will include criminal justice , emergency treatment , street cleaning etc .. so why do we have so many people living that life, is it not easier/cheaper to rehouse , what is failing and why?  Are all homeless people addicts as I'm told .. are they all living in big houses ?? are gangs operating within the cities and making money begging .. these are things i hear daily ..  I would really value your support with this and raising money whilst doing this will keep me going knowing that we will be able to help so many going forward as I know the challenges that face me and I'm nearly 30 years older than I was when I was rough sleeping in my teens.
