Guatemala Volcano Disaster Relief

June 3rd, 2018 Guatemala's most violent volcanic eruption in more than a century happened.   Villages on the slopes of Fuego Volcano were buried and more than 3,000 residents have been evacuated, with a total of about 1.7 million people affected in four regions.
Fuego Volcano is very dangerous and continues being so because it has unleashed pyroclastic flow -- a nasty mix of ash, rock and volcanic gases that can be much more dangerous than just lava.  BBC News June 4, 2018

Major health threats from a volcanic eruption from CDC

Volcanoes spew hot, dangerous gases, ash, lava, and rock that are powerfully destructive.  People die from volcanic blasts. The most common cause of death from a volcano is suffocation. Volcanic eruptions can result in additional threats to health, such as floods, mudslides, power outages, drinking water contamination, and wildfires.

Health concerns after a volcanic eruption include infectious disease, respiratory illness, burns, injuries from falls, and vehicle accidents related to the slippery, hazy conditions caused by ash.

It is good to know that when people receive help in a timely manner, sequelaes can be reduced, entire communities can receive assistance so they can be safe and lives can be saved.

Because of this, Rotary Club of Miami Airport (Miami, FL ) is conducting this campaign to help, and funds raised will be sent to Rotary Club of Escuintla ( to purchase much needed water, food, medicine and clothing among other lifesaving items.
