Ross Summey Strong

Ross Yates Summey has been living and thriving in sober living for three months in a recovery centered community. On Friday morning he and a friend were in a horrific motor vehicle accident on I 40 East. Ross was intubated in the field and miraculously saved by being life-flighted. He suffered massive blood loss through a scalp laceration and severe internal bleeding. His liver had a Grade 5 laceration. As soon as the helicopter landed he had life saving surgery to stop the internal bleeding and begin to repair the liver and bleeding from the scalp. His spleen had to be removed. His kidneys were bleeding, the pancreas leaking, ribs broken and right pelvis broken. He had a second surgery Saturday to close the stomach and install drains in the belly, liver and pancreas. He had a third surgery Monday to install a stent in the bile duct of the liver, as it is still leaking. He is awaiting a fourth surgery to repair his broken hip socket as soon as he is stable enough. He has suffered brain trauma that is still being evaluated but no brain bleed. His father passed away in March and his mother, "Miss Cynthia", a well-known teacher in Ashe County Schools has suffered a failed spinal fusion, and a posterior spinal revision in April 2019. She is still healing and on a medical leave of absence, unable to work. Ross has a beautiful two year old son, Bryson, who he loves dearly. Any money raised from this GoFundMe campaign will be used for food, lodging, and upcoming medical expenses. Ross will have an extensive medical rehabilitation and possible upcoming surgeries.
