8 years ago I was diagnosed with MS. It's been a tough time and I've always dreamt of getting better. I was recently accepted into a stem cell trial and now I need to raise the money so I can heal!
Dr Burt in Chicago has made his life about helping people with autoimmune disease, and MS is a big one. He has been doing this work for a long time and has helped over 200 MS patients get their lives back. The stem cells are mine; they're harvested from me through my blood and will be later introduced back to start a new immune system which has no memory of the old malfunctioning one. This involves several doses of chemotherapy. I'll spend about a month living in or near the hospital and will need to have someone with me for most of it.
I've been told that I will be out of work for three to six months and during this time I will have to visit the hospital in Chicago three times, plus follow-up visits. My return travel from Chicago has to be flexible in case the doctor is unable to harvest enough stem cells or I need more healing time in the hospital; this means I need to purchase either last minute flights, fly standby, or drive.
When I get home, my life will be rather isolated. I will need to spend time allowing my immune system to recover. I even have dietary restrictions.
I look forward to being able to run, to work in the heat without losing the ability to walk, and in general just having my body back. Thank you for considering helping me.
