Rosie's House Fundraising

Rosie’s House is a boutique style respite house primarily for Rett Syndrome girls/young ladies and their amazing carers to come together and learn, cook, play, communicate, explore the community, laugh and have fun.
As a parent of a beautiful Rett girl - Amber Rose, I felt that there was no respite organisation that accommodated her needs.  They are very fragile girls, high-needs that require 1:1 support and vigilant care.  There was nothing that suited her or my needs or made us feel truly safe.  The answer....was to start my own.  In order to do this and make it totally disability friendly I need to get a few things done.  Firstly I would like to make the property wheelchair accessible with paths and ramps.  Secondly, we will need specialised equipment like hoists to be able to lift the immobile girls from wheelchair to bathroom etc... and lastly the biggest item on my wish list is a wheelchair accessible vehicle that will accommodate 6-8 girls and their carers.  We have a vehicle lined up but no funds to purchase just yet.  This would ultimately make getting out and about in the community a lot easier and accessible and a lot of fun for the girls to travel together.
My dream is to give our girls a safe, caring and educational environment to spend the day with their special friends.
Some days are nice and calm, quiet and fun - cooking, playing games, art, crafts and sensory play, always with the girls’ form of communication ie.. eye-gaze machines, iPads or pictures.   On Thursdays the girls hit the town and let their hair down getting used to being in the community; travelling on trains, buses or ferries to places like Southbank, Roma Street gardens, bowling, shopping, getting their nails done or to cafes and restaurants, where they get used to being around people and trying new foods.
We are also hoping to introduce trips to the Gold Coast to either go horse riding at Arundel Park Riding for the Disabled, checking out our beautiful beaches, exploring the Southport Parklands and possibly the occasional theme park.
We are open all year round, except public holidays and whilst we have primarily Rett Syndrome girls, we also welcome those with Cerebral Palsy, Angelman’s Syndrome and other disabilities on the Autism Spectrum.

Our girls deserve a happy, caring environment to go to each day and we aim to do exactly that at Rosie’s House.
We would so appreciate your donation to help contribute to our cause and the lives of our beautiful Silent Angels.
