Rosie Needs Chemotherapy for Bladder Tumor

44563692_1578516399968188_r.jpegThis is Rosie. I got her when she was 6 weeks old and while I was still in college. She has been the center of my life ever since.

Back in November, Rosie had to have surgery to remove some bladder stones. She rebounded immediately and was trying to play before the stitches were even out. However, by her second follow-up appointment, red flags started going up. Rosie started going potty more frequently and we had to take her out at least five times throughout the night, when she usually never needs to go at night.

The vet discovered a mass in her bladder, which was blocking most of her pee. On January 5, we took her to the emergency vet because she wasn’t able to urinate at all and her bladder was hard. She had to stay overnight and they inserted a catheter to help her urinate. The next day, a radiologist did another ultrasound and confirmed the mass.

She is currently at the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital where they are monitoring the catheter and her ability to urinate. We spoke with the Oncologist to discuss our options. Our plan right now is to start a combination of anti-inflammatory medication and chemotherapy in hopes that it will shrink the tumor and she can urinate on her own and come home. If this works, we will continue chemotherapy and combine it with radiation. Our goal is to get Rosie home and hopefully be able to love on her for as long as possible. When we do have to make the tough decision to put her down, we want to be able to do it comfortably in our home.  Other than this, she is a perfectly healthy dog and only eight years old. We are going to do everything we can to keep her alive, while she can have a good quality of life.

So far, we have spent $8,000 between the bladder surgery, testing, medication and hospital stay. We received an estimate for the chemotherapy and radiation, and it will be around $10,000. We would appreciate any assistance that we can get to keep our girl with us for as long as possible.
