Send Midwife Ali Lape To Haiti

Donation protected

Ali Lape an active member of our community, will travel abroad to improve women’s health care. She will volunteer this summer with Midwives for Haiti to help increase the number of skilled birth attendants with hands on teaching. Ali will improve her skills and bring back experiences that will improve our own community.

About Ali Lape:

Ali is a community-minded mom, student and midwife. Ali was certified by NARM (North America Midwives Association) in 2009 after graduating from Maternidad La Luz in Texas, a busy birth center and school. She then was licensed and shared a homebirth practice in New Mexico. Returning to her home, Ali caught babies in Santa Barbara, CA. Now living in Douglas County and loving it, she has a homebirth practice here. She is also an active volunteer on her local rural fire department and has recently graduated fire academy.  She is on call to respond to calls for her community as well as her homebirth clients. Ali is a full time student at Umpqua Community College.

 About the Project Details:
Ali will be going abroad to teach birth skills to Haitian nurses enrolled in a midwifery training program. She feels like a small part of their 13-month program but is excited to make a difference. She will broaden her abilities and skill set and bring those experiences back to Roseburg. Her passion to serve families shines wherever she is. Ali is aware of the unnecessary suffering and high mom and baby mortality rates in Haiti. "I have to go. I can’t just sit here and do nothing."  Her hopes are to bring needed medical supplies to stock the hospital as well as mama/baby supplies to give to each mama she will attend to. A blanket to wrap each new baby in will be your gift to the cause.

What Donations Will Be Used For:
Ali will need to raise funds to complete the first trip abroad.  Her first trip will begin July 17th through August 1st, 2015.

The cost of flight - $1235.00.
The cost of the volunteer fees - $750.00 the first week and $450.00 the second week.

All other funds raised will directly go to Midwives for Haiti.

Ali's message to You.
"Thank you so much for all the love and support from everyone. This is something I have wanted to do for three years and with the help of my group Karen, Patrick, Cassie, Brianna, and Megan, AND to all of the donors, it is happening. I am so excited and honored to serve in the best way I know how. Birthwork, mama/baby care. Peace on Earth begins with Birth."
