Rosalie Grace & Premature Babies

Donation protected
On Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 3:49PM, our daughter Rosalie Grace Sullivan came into this world at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in the NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit). Her arrival was quite the surprise as her expected due date was September 30, 2016.  As we immediately fell head over heels in love with our sweet Rosalie, the doctors made it clear the challenges and uphill battle that our daughter would endure being underdeveloped.  On the outside, she was flawless.  Perfect definition and beauty from head to toe with all 12.2 inches of her. We both agree that she kind of looked like Daddy... From Day 1, all of our energy and focus went into doing everything we could in our power to bring her home.

There was literally nothing wrong with the outside of her beautiful body. Her troubles were on the inside, which we were warned about and is very common with all premature babies.  A severe brain bleed, heart murmur, and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) were all the signs that she wasn't going to win her fight that we so desperately prayed for. The six days that we spent with her were filled with love and family time.  Every few hours the nurses needed to check her levels and perform her cares. After the first day, the nurses handed these responsibilities to us, allowing us to change her diapers, feed her mommy’s milk, take her temperature, weigh her, moisturize her delicate skin, and any other miscellaneous tasks that needed to be done. We talked to her, sang to her, read her books, told her stories about her parents/family, kissed her every chance we got, and told her all the things we were looking forward to doing with her.

Our little angel passed away on Monday, June 13th around the same time that she came into the world. We've learned a lot in the past two weeks about premature babies and the struggles that come with families who win their battles and overcome the odds.

Donations will go to helping with Rosalie's medical expenses, funeral accommodations and headstone.  All additional funds will go directly to helping families who struggle with underdeveloped children that also went through the NICU. One of the charities we look forward to contributing to is ‘The March of Dimes.’

We greatly appreciate all of the love, prayers, and support from everyone throughout this difficult time. Our family can't thank you enough for helping our sweet baby angel.

We love you.
