Rosalia's 2nd Breast Cancer Fight

Our mother Rosalia is a 56 year old wife, mother to three girls and a boy, and grandmother to eight beautiful grandchildren. Rosy is a Cosmetologist and owns her own small neighborhood hair salon.
In June of 2005, Rosalia Roman, known to her family and friends as “Rosy”, walked into a mobile breast screening station to be examined. Rosy did not have health insurance and very low funds, so she was very thankful they were offering the breast cancer exam for free. To her surprise she was called back for another examination. This is when she received the horrible news, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
At the time of her diagnosis, she only lived with her husband, her son was living a few towns away, but her three daughters were back home in Costa Rica. Without all of her family present, she immediately began treatment.
Following the recommendation of Doctors, she had a mastectomy to remove the tumor in her left breast. She underwent three surgeries to remove the tumor. After all of the surgeries, she was placed on medication (“Tamoxifen”) for 5 years. After 5 long years, she was diagnosed as Cancer free.
On October 17th, 2017, during a routine examination, Rosy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer AGAIN. The cancer came back on the same breast. She underwent a double mastectomy on December 4th, 2017. Doctors informed her and her family that her tumors were not fully removed back in 2005, so they removed both breast this time to make sure it will not come back. They had to do “skin grafting” on both breasts. On Tuesday December 5th, 2017 Rosy and her family were informed that the Skin Grafts were not working and that blood was not circulating properly through the veins so she was rushed into the OR for another emergency surgery. She will go through another surgery on Sunday December 10, 2017 to reconstruct both breast.
On top of the obvious medical expenses for all of the procedures, Rosy will lose substantial income during her recovery. Due to the length of time she will be in recovery, she is unable to work and in danger of losing her small neighborhood salon that she has worked so hard for.
All Funds received will be used to help offset expenses for Rosy’ s cancer surgeries, treatments, recovery, and to alleviate financial stresses to Rosy and her loving Husband.
