Rosa L. Wilkins Scholarship

Donation protected
Last year, I had the pleasure of sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded in my grandmother’s name, Rosa L. Wilkins. I created this scholarship to honor my mother (Annie Wilkins) and grandmother. I also created it as a means of giving back in appreciation for all the assistance I have received over the years. I was blessed to be able to attend Michigan State University on a full academic scholarship and graduate debt free with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I believe it is my responsibility to pay it forward to the next generation of students.

I realized that independently, I was able to sponsor one student with a $1,000 scholarship but support  from others, I would be able to reach my goal of supporting three (3) STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students with  $1,000 each, totaling $3,000.

I have already reached $1,500 through contributions from my mother, lovely girlfriend and myself. But realized last year when I started this scholarship, many individuals were looking for ways to contribute and wanted to make this opportunity available to all.

All donations will go toward an academic scholarship for STEM students. A letter will be sent off with the scholarship application to MSU highlighting all the individuals who have contributed, and sponsors will be mentioned at the Dean’s Showcase of Stars Breakfast where the scholarship will be awarded. Deadline for contributions is October 26th. Thank you for any donations you are able to give, every dollar goes towards an investment to our students!

Short autobiography:

I am an alumnus of Detroit Central High School, a Detroit Public School located on the city’s westside.  Graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and started working full-time with Nestle USA directly after. Currently, I work at Nestle in Waverly, Iowa where we make powdered beverages such as Nesquik, Hot chocolate, and Coffee-mate. I’ve combined my interest of STEM fields with an ambition to contribute to the community.  I continue to stay active in events to benefit the community whether I’m placed in Detroit or a small town in northern Iowa. When not working, I enjoy listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
