Rori's Therapy Fund

For those of you who don't know Rori, she is our beautiful, motivated, and sunny 6 year old daughter.  Near the end of labor during her birth, the placenta partially detached from the uterine wall.  The resulting lack of oxygen for an extended amount of time  caused brain damage.  Her diagnosis is Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy and she has extra expenses for therapies, travel, and lodging for therapies.  We typically do intensive therapies over the summer, which aren't always covered by insurance.  Jamie's parents have been very generous and are covering most of the cost for these therapies plus more for some current home modifications and improvements for Rori.  Matt's parents have also been generous in helping cover the cost of therapy. We are struggling to cover the cost of lodging and the remaining balance for the three therapies for this summer.  

The first intensive, called Musgatova Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration (MNRI) is four days long and six hours each day.  This intensive helps integrate the reflexes that typical babies integrate naturally.  Rori hasn't integrated them due to her brain injury.  After past MNRI intensives, we have noticed improvement in foot deformities, posture,  hip placement, ease of movement, and sensitivity to touch and noise.  This is the one with the hotel stay.

The second intensive is the Therasuit Method which is physical and occupational therapy using a special suit that helps to correctly align the body.  This therapy is three weeks long, five days a week, and three hours each day.  We did this a year after her rhizotomy and saw a huge amount of strength and balance improvement.  We hope that she will be proficient with her crutches once this therapy is complete.

The third therapy is fairly new to us and is called the Feldenkrais Method.  This therapy is a movement therapy that helps improve speech (which is a motor problem for Rori), fine motor, and gross motor.
