- Podcast production fees
- Website hosting and maintenance
It doesn't include expenses, my labour costs, any extra work such as production of Bonus episodes, changes to the website, etc. Before you make the decision to put your hand in your pocket though, please allow me to tell you about about why I'm doing what I'm doing.
I created the Roots and All website as an antidote to the traditional gardening media, which just ain’t cutting it when it comes to helping people learn how to grow things. It’s either baffling or boring, or it's too wrapped in traditions, outdated institutions/beliefs and old wives' tales. I don't pretend to have all the answers. I've put in my hours at the coalface but nobody knows all there is to know about growing things but do you know what I am quite good at? Knowing where to find the people who do have the answers and sniffing out the bullshit artists who don't. I’m going to have a go at shaking it up and providing information that's useful and honest but I need your help to do this.
As the journey through podcasting and writing has progressed, I've realised that for years not only has the gardening media been grinding my gears, but dealing with clients who listen to, read and watch it has been too. I've been banging my head against a brick wall trying to garden and design within parameters that I find unacceptable and I've been trying to deliver gardens to clients that don't exist outside TV or the flower shows. I've also recently realised that I'm not happy and never have been happy to accept the destructive nature of gardening and garden design as it pertains to wildlife and the environment so I've stopped taking on design work that doesn't allow me to 'tread more lightly' on site.
Anyway, back to the matter in hand and why I NEED YOU. I get lots of compliments about the standard of the podcast production which is nothing to do with me. I’m hopeless at anything techie and to get each episode produced, I have to pay a lovely man to edit and upload it. And because he’s so awesome, each episode costs me money and the only way I can continue to produce podcasts is with your help. I also need help to be able to continue writing articles and putting out content that's better researched and unbiased than some of the stuff you can read on better-known, more widely-respected *cough* gardening sites. I can manage some of the website stuff myself but much of it is beyond my capabilities and getting the website managed costs money too. I can't afford to self-fund the podcast and website for ever, I'm happy to go without food but I can't deprive my animals of their dinners and that's pretty much my only priority at the moment.
So that I can continue to produce quality material and continue to speak to interesting and inspiring guests, I would love it if you could donate as much or as little as you can afford to support Roots and All. ANY amount is hugely appreciated and let’s me know that I’m helping you by providing useful information. As an example, if the information I've provided has saved you from buying an expensive and potentially useless product, please consider making a one-off donation for half the price of that product. That's a win-win for both of us! If you'd like to provide regular support, please consider signing up for my Patreon tiers to receive more content.
Thank you for reading and for your support and most importantly, don't forget to get out there and get growing!
