Rehabilitation of the Soley Leve Library

Donation protected
The Marbial Valley is a vast area in the northern part of the municipality of Jacmel, Haiti, where more than 70,000 inhabitants live off the land. In July 2016, Renold Laurent, a local artist and community organizer, piloted a « mobile library » project, which made books available to the community. But he quickly discovered that one motorcycle carrying books to distribute to local residents just wasn’t enough.

The Sunrise Cultural Center library is now centralized in one location, Source Bretoux (Bas Lavoute, at the foot of the Marbial Valley), to make the process of sharing information more efficient, to broaden the reach of his efforts, and to facilitate better access to various educational materials.

The Cultural Center aims to rehabilitate and revitalize the rural community of Marbial, Haiti by enabling its members to exercise the right to education and knowledge for all through several activities, which include the following : reading, skills training, preserving local archives, and learning about the importance of respect for the environment, in general, and for local traditions, more specifically.

We’ve started this GoFundMe page because we need your help repairing the roof and providing the library with a sanitary block

Haitians have a saying:
Men anpil; chay pa lou!
Literal translation:
Many hands; load is not heavy.
Refined translation:
Many helping hands lighten an otherwise heavy load.

Please lend a helping hand if you are willing and able.
The community of Marbial would be immensely grateful for any amount of support you can offer!

Thank you very much for your attention and consideration!
