Roof leakage: An impossible sum.

6 years we lived in our rented apartment where 2 became 5. We had for years dreamed about a house for our kids to have proper rooms and a garden to play in. And finally February 1st, 2019 we had been granted a loan for a nice house just big enough for us in an area safe for our kids to grow up in.

Gone was the hazardous balcony which had concrete falling off it, without the house owners wanting to fix it. And gone was the cold days and nights due to poorly insulated rooms. We were finally on our way to a better daily life.

Everything looked modern and fresh, in comparison to what we came from. Unfortunately, we quickly started to realize, inexperienced house buyers as we were, not all was as good in the new house as we thought... And the house sellers who seemed very nice and honest clearly had not been so.

It started with a wet crawl space, bugs in the bedrooms, snails in the kitchen, mice in the attic, rot and mold in several locations. Hazardous DIY electrical wirings, broken bathroom hardware and a clogged central heater leading to water leakages in the attic.  These were all things we could fix to some extent ourselves, hard work but possible.

That's until we found out or the roof was leaking... This was not a new issue it seemed, an issue the house seller should have informed about, an issue which made it screamingly clear than not having funding for a pre-purchase house inspection is a really bad situation to put yourself in.

According to the roof inspectors today (29/4/2019) it was caused by a poor repair done at the neighbor's roof after a storm where they made a separation of the tiles making the water run under the tiles into our house.

The insurance company only want to pay for water damages that occurred to belongings, as they consider this a fail in maintaining the roof and therefore we aren't getting any support from them.

While we are willing and capable of fixing most issues, this is one we can't do ourselves.

How it stands now is that we have a bill of 3395,87 euros in order to make our house watertight and to prevent new leakages to appear. After buying a house at the top of our funding possibility, with a maxed-out personal loan to even get us moved here and 3 kids under 3 years this is an impossible cost.

And that's why we are desperately asking for support to make our house watertight again.
