Ronda Gunn: Stage III Lymphoma

Donation protected
In 2011 my mom (Ronda) was diagnosed with stage III Lymphoma and endured 3 months of aggressive chemotherapy treatment every three weeks resulting in $100,000 in medical bills before she finally went into remission. Thankfully, she was employed full time by a company that offered short term disability, and was able to continue her insurance coverage.

In August of this year (2018) she was re-diagnosed with stage III Lymphoma under which she will endure 6 months of intensive chemotherapy every week, with one week off each month. So far this has resulted in $30,000 worth of medical bills on top of her previous medical bills, and there are only more to come.

Prior to her diagnosis she was the sole caretaker of my grandfather as she is his Power of Attorney for his property, health, and finances. He fell ill and was hospitalized in March of this year and has been in a rehab program ever since which has cost upwards of $50,000 - depleting nearly his entire life savings.

She had initially hoped to quit her job in late July to care for him, but after learning of her diagnosis decided it was best to stay working in order to keep getting health insurance to assist with paying for the extremely expensive cancer treatment. On top of having to work a full time job just to receive semi-affordable health care, she is struggling to make the 32 hour/week requirement due to her declining health, chemotherapy appointments, and taking care of my grandfather.

She has been working to be granted permanent guardianship and is also working to get him into Azura Memory Care in Beloit to continue his therapy. However, in order to access the facility they have to prove that they/he has enough money to finance his housing for two years. Considering the massive amounts of debt she has incurred in medical bills alone, this is no easy task. Two years in Azura Memory Care is close to $100,000.

I am looking to raise a minimum goal of $20,000 by the 1st of November 2018. I don't think I have to tell anyone how difficult being diagnosed with cancer and going through treatment alone is, but with the added stress of not knowing how you're going to finance your fathers life or living situation on top of that is incredibly daunting.

Even if you can only donate $1, $5, or $10 it will help her to focus all of what little energy she does have on healing, getting through chemo successfully, and getting on with her life!

Thank you for your generosity and support!

Best,

Hillary
