THE RONAN CLARKE 24 HOUR RUNATHON

For the last 5 years Killala GAA Club in association with the Clarke family have run the hugely successful 'Ronan Clarke 5K/10K Run and Walk'. The run was set up to commemorate our club mate and friend Ronan Clarke who passed away in  2014. The run has grown in popularity year on year and it is always a high point in the community calendar. Every year it is an opportunity for young and old to come together to have fun, raise funds for a good cause and to remember Ronan.

With current social distancing restrictions in place due to the global Covid 19 pandemic, this year's run had to be cancelled. However in it's place we have decided to run a 24 hour virtual relay to raise funds for Mayo Roscommon Hospice.

THE CHALLENGE

Players past and present at home and abroad, along with club members and members of the Clarke family have agreed to run or walk,  for an allotted 30 minute slot over a 24 hour period. Our first participant will start at 2pm on Saturday 25th July and after 30 minutes will pass on the virtual baton to the next participant who will begin their run at 2:30pm. The virtual baton will be passed through all 48 participants until the 24 hour runathon is complete at 2pm on Sunday 26th July.

As it’s a virtual relay, we will have people doing this challenge in different locations worldwide from Killala, Galway, Dublin, Sydney, San Francisco, New York and Kuala Lumpur.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Despite not all being able to meet up this year for the run we do want everyone to get involved.  Over the weekend we want you to put on your Killala colours, grab all of your family and get out and do a 30 minute walk or run in your own area. Please take a picture or short video and send it on to us on facebook. We will be doing a compilation video showing all participants. And of course don't forget to donate.
