Ronald Mercier Memorial Fund

Ronnie was dealt a bad card with his health.  Having his first heart attack at 31 and then a quadruple bypass that revealed a possible birth defect in his heart.  Then, unfortunately, the medicine he was put on for his heart caused kidney failure.  After that, he was required to have dialysis 3 times a week.  Dialysis posed a huge challenge with different ports failing and infections becoming an issue.  We tried to get him on the list to receive a donor's kidney but his heart was too weak for the surgery and we couldn't get him on the list for a heart because of his kidneys.  This was heartbreaking because a family member was a match!  He spent his lasts months in a nursing home rehabilitation center trying to recover from a septic infection from complications of dialysis.

Through all of this, my brother remained positive.  When we last visited him he said I am going to make it through this and put both thumbs in the air.  He had a fighting spirit and I will be forever grateful to know him and have his love.

Now, my brother Ronnie was no angel by any means!!!  But, I can truly say he was a sweet, kind, loving man that had a quick wit.  I always thought he should have pursued being a comedian.  Another talent was in the baby department, I rarely met a child or baby that did not just want to go over and jump in his lap.  He would have made a great Santa!  But no gray hair yet???
