Ron Thomas Memorial Fund

Our dear friend, Ron Thomas, age 51, was diagnosed with an aggressive and terminal form of brain cancer (Glioblastoma) on August 17, 2017.  Surgery was performed on August 25th and they estimated that they removed about 90% of the tumor.  Aggressive treatment (chemo AND radiation) followed and life changed drastically for the Thomas family.  There were a few good days interspersed with many rough, intense ones.  Ron was able to work very little due to the intensity of the treatment and the symptoms of the disease.

Ron grew up in Elyria, where he graduated from Elyria High, with the class of 1985.  He continued his education at Cleveland State University, where he graduated with a Business degree in 1989. He spent the next 20+ years doing what he loved – Sales!  His field of expertise was selling home/construction supplies, from sunrooms to windows, to most recently, siding.  Companies he worked for included Joyce Manufacturing, Norandex, Pella, and Kaycan.

Ron was a family man and loved spending time with his wife of 22 years, Jean, and sons Andrew, Zach and Josh.  He was very involved in his sons’ sports activities and rarely missed a game.  He and his wife did iPad stats for the varsity boy’s basketball team at Open Door Christian and he loved it.  He loved being able to encourage the team and he cared deeply for the players.

Ron’s most recent hobby was running.  Jean is an avid runner, and after 20 years of begging him to run with her, he finally took up the sport and loved it.  He ran several 5k’s and half marathons over the last 2 years.  In fact, he had run an 11 mile training run just 4 days before being diagnosed with brain cancer.  He was the epitome of health, which is why his diagnosis came as such a devastating shock to his family.  He fought endlessly and courageously for 6 months, but early on Thursday morning, March 8, 2018, Ron was taken home to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior.

As friends and family we would love to surround Jean and her three sons with our love and support.  This family has lost their primary source of income.  So, in lieu of flowers for the service or just to be a blessing to Jean and the boys, please consider helping them in this way.  All funds raised will go directly to help defray funeral expenses, college costs for Josh (Fr) and Zach (Jr), and the many outstanding medical expenses left from Ron’s battle.
