Imagine a world-wide network of passionate and expert women in STEMM, rising to the challenges of climate change, influency policy and driving change... EPIC!

Homeward Bound is a ground-breaking leadership, strategic and science initiative and outreach for women with a focus on climate change.  This program aims to heighten the influence and impact of women in science, technology, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) to influence the policy and decision-making as it shapes our planet.

This year, 80 women, including me, are participating in this one-year leadership program that culminates in a three-week intensive training expedition to Antarctica. This training includes leadership and strategic planning training as well as a cutting edge science education program about the state and functioning of our planet

I am fortunate to be part of this, but I need your support to get there, we leave in > 3 months!

Break it down...
The programme costs each participant US$40,000, a significant proportion of which is covered by generous sponsors and donors. I need to raise a further AUD$10,000 plus the costs of flights, accommodation, visas etc. I need your support. I am looking for sponsorship from companies, organisations and individuals who are willing to show their support for an equitable future for women, particularly in the sciences, a brighter outlook for our planet and are willing to invest in me to stand up, be the voice of change and shift policy towards a sustainable future – I even have some awesome perks for those who help me raise the funds!

About me....
I am a passionate and dynamic individual with diverse skills and experience, a global explorer and mildly eccentric soil scientist. I have a strong sense of social and environmental justice and believe information sharing and story telling play a critical role in the future of science and the successful integration of best practice science into policy. With a PhD in soil science, my research has focused on carbon sequestration in agricultural soils and food security in the face of climate change. I am committed to finding innovative and creative solutions to the challenges of climate change on the natural and built environment and dedicate my life to creating a better, more just world.

My mission...
The most powerful tool a scientist has is their ability to communicate their research. I believe that knowledge translation is the key, briding the gap between science and policy. Moving from reactionary policy to visionary policy. Those with the technical backgrounds and diverse (and charasmatic) communication skills such as myself, have a responsibilty to step up and be leaders in knowledge translation, making best practice science available to a wider audience and more readily incorporated into policy to inform better decision making.

Through my research and career I am committed to influencing those around me to make better decision based on real facts, and guide or influence policy development using best practice science so that we can progress towards realistic and achievable management strategies resulting in environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development.
