Romeo's Medical Bills and Memorial

On Sunday, September 24, 2017 a tragedy occured.  This beloved sweet dog, Romeo belonging to my friend Bernadette had come as usual to visit us and enjoy a day of rest in the fresh New Paltz air.    Romeo and our dog Layla were playing out in the yard.  Romeo and Layla went to the property line as they had many times this year to sniff and run.  They crossed by the front fence of my neighbors and Romeo was grabbed and dragged through the fence where he was mauled by the neighbor's dog.  Romeo was in bad shape but he was a fighter and we rushed him to an emergency vet clinic where he needed to undergo immediate surgery to determine how much damage was done to his organs.  He was bleeding very badly and his abdomen had been torn open.  The clinic worked very hard to save Romeo but he died the next morning.  

Romeo was amazing.  He was the defintion of a best friend.  Always cheerful, loving and friendly.  He is a major reason we got a family dog ourselves.  This loss is devestating.  The event was extremely traumatic.  The vet bills alone could not be covered and a loan was taken out at the clinic to try and save Romeo's life.  There was a chance and we had to take it.  I am sharing Romeo's story because if we can in anyway help Bernadette out, we should.  The loss of a beloved pet is so traumatic and devestating but the financial burden on top of it is unbearable.  

I am hoping we can come together as friends, family, and a community of animal lovers to offer words of support as well as any financial contributions to help Bernadette in her time of need.
